Weight Loss vs. Nutrition

Weight loss isn’t always a product of good nutrition. However, good nutrition usually leads to weight loss. Confused yet? Let me dispel 3 myths of weight loss programs:

You should cut out carbs

Do not cut out carbs, or you will lose brain cells. No seriously, your brain runs off glucose that is broken down from carbohydrates by your body. The neurotransmitters in your brain need glucose to synthesize properly. Also, most carbohydrates contain tryptophan, which helps produce serotonin, a feel-good hormone.

Incorporate more kale into your diet

While you should incorporate more kale into your diet, the better option is lots of different leafy greens. Collard greens, chard, romaine, red leaf lettuce, spinach, beet greens, and watercress are all other great alternative greens to start eating for a nutrition boost!

All you should do is count calories

Where the calories came from is just as important (if not more) than how many calories it is. A Twix bar contains 286 calories, while a cup of sliced avocado is 234 calories so they both hold similar caloric value yet the avocado contains many more nutrients to fuel your body.

The key to feeling your best is through proper nutrition which includes eating a well-rounded and balanced diet complete with all the vitamins, minerals, fiber, carbohydrates, and proteins that your body needs to function daily. When the mindset changes from strictly weight loss to nourishing your body with these essentials is when the magic starts to happen. You’ll notice a difference in energy levels, mental sharpness, and overall heath (mental, physical and emotional) when you start eating a well-balanced diet.
