Tomatoes, The Super Fruit!

When people think of superfoods, they think of kale, goji berries, and chia seeds. All of these are still superfoods but there’s one that’s much more common and close to home, tomatoes! Not only are tomatoes delicious raw in salads or cooked down in sauces but they also provide some amazing health benefits!

Rich in Antioxidants – tomatoes are full of the highly effective antioxidant, lycopene. Lycopene has been proven to tackle free radicals that could cause cancer, according to studies published by Harvard.

High in Essential Nutrients – tomatoes are very high in vitamin C, vitamin A, potassium, iron, and vitamin K. Iron is important for normal blood circulation and vitamin K is essential for blood clotting!

Lower Blood Pressure – due to the high potassium levels of tomatoes, they make a great agent for reducing hypertension. Potassium relaxes the tension in blood vessels and arteries which increases circulation and lowers stress on the heart muscle.

Adding tomatoes, raw or cooked, is a great way to add a superfood kick to your health routine! Since they grow so well right here in Texas, Lettuce grows them almost year round (except when it’s freezing). We then harvest them at optimal nutritional ripeness for delivery to your door!
