School Program Update : Spring 2018

Happy New Year! 2017 came to a close with Lettuce’s partnerships including four schools and two non-profits, seeding and transplanting thousands of starts, and increasing our subscriber reach 10x! We appreciate all the love and support along the way. We welcome 2018 with open arms and are excited for this new year and the potential it holds for us.

Existing Schools
Gullett Elementary and Small Middle School have been covered with a tarp for a few months now. Tarping plots allows us to keep the weeds down and kill grass before planting. This past week we finally removed their tarps and re-tilled the land. Soon both of these farms will be planted with seasonal crops and start to become full production farms for our meal kits! Our farm team may be small but they sure are mighty, we are looking forward to seeing these plots of land become thriving farms like our farm at Lee Elementary.

On the 1st of February we had the privilege of meeting enthusiastic families and hearing rave reviews at the Gullett curriculum night. It is inspiring to hear such kind and grateful words about what we do at Lettuce. You all are what keep us going. Thanks for having us at Gullett, and we look forward to attending more school events with all our partners in the future.

New Partnerships

Lettuce has recently partnered with GAVA (GO! Austin / ¡VAMOS! Austin) to host a pilot project for the Mendez Middle School community through the month of February. Lettuce will be offering one full month of free meal kits delivered to 17 families within the 78744 community beginning this weekend, February 3rd. The goals of this project are to supply fresh food to families that otherwise might not have access to it and receive feedback on Lettuce’s services. Lettuce is seeking specific information about price points, interest & desire in product, aspects of delivery & accessibility, affordability, and cultural relevance. Our chefs have been working hard to develop recipes that are culturally accessible! You will be seeing delicious Latin-American inspired meals over the course of this month.

In the first month of 2018 we have already partnered with a new school, Primrose Vista Ridge! They will be using our subscription code to generate profits back to their school, which will in turn be delivered to charities of their choice. In addition to the Primrose signing on this month, we also have begun a relationship with the Sustainable Food Center. The Sustainable Food Center is responsible for growing and implementing a variety of farm and food related projects across Austin. They have garden & cooking education classes, help schools get a small gardens running, and help facilitate farm stands across Austin. Be on the lookout for additional announcements about new school and nonprofit partnerships!
